This competition invites residents from all districts of Sikkim to create short films or moving image stories that celebrate, reflect on, or explore aspects of their own district. Entries can take the form of short films, video essays, montages, or reels.

Overview

This competition invites residents from all districts of Sikkim to create short films or moving image stories that celebrate, reflect on, or explore aspects of their own district. Entries can take the form of short films, video essays, montages, or reels.

The competition has two participation categories:

  • Amateur: Students, hobbyists, and self-taught creators
  • Professional: Practicing filmmakers, content creators, or media professionals

For Film My Destrict

Eligibility Guidelines

Amateur Category:
Open to current residents of the district with no formal training or professional experience in filmmaking. This includes students, hobbyists, and self-taught individuals.

Professional Category:
Open to residents with professional training, paid experience, or a demonstrable body of work in film, video, or media.

General Rules:

  • Participants must currently reside in the district they are representing.

  • Individuals or teams of up to three people may participate.

  • Each participant/team may submit one entry only.

All participants must be 18 years or older.

Submission Format

  • Film Type: Short film, video essay, montage, or reel
  • Duration: 1 to 5 minutes
  • Language: Any (subtitles in English or Nepali encouraged)
  • File Format: .MP4 or .MOV
  • File Size Limit: 500 MB
  • Originality: Work must be original. Use of AI-generated visuals must be disclosed.

Credits: End credits should acknowledge creators and filming location(s).

Theme and Concept Guidelines

  • Participants should interpret “My District, My Pride” in a way that reflects:

    • Local culture, traditions, or rituals
    • Landscapes, daily life, or architecture
    • Personal or community stories
    • Narratives of belonging, change, or aspiration

    The tone may be poetic, documentary, humorous, reflective, or stylized.

Judging Criteria

Amateur Category:

  • Creativity and Originality – 30%
  • Relevance to the District – 25%
  • Narrative Clarity and Engagement – 25%
  • Effort and Ingenuity – 20%

Professional Category:

  • Creativity and Conceptual Depth – 30%
  • Technical Execution – 25%
  • Relevance to the District – 25%
  • Narrative and Editing Flow – 20%

Jury Panel

Each district’s entries will be evaluated by a three-member jury panel comprising:

  • One local cultural leader or educator

  • One professional filmmaker or designer (invited by SDW team)

  • One government representative (Commerce & Industries Department)

Shortlisted entries may also be reviewed at the state level by a central jury.

Terms and Conditions (Summary)

  • Participants retain copyright but grant the organizers the right to exhibit and publish their work.

  • All submissions must be original and free from plagiarism, hate speech, or political messaging.

  • The organizers reserve the right to shift entries between categories in case of misrepresentation.

  • Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.

District-Level Competition: DRAW MY DISTRICT

Overview

This competition invites participants to visually represent their district through illustration, drawing, or visual design. The intent is to celebrate the unique identity, stories, and cultural heritage of each district in Sikkim through accessible visual expression.

Entries can be digital or hand-drawn and may include elements such as maps, architecture, flora and fauna, people, motifs, typography, local customs, or imagined futures.

The competition is open in two categories:

  • Amateur – School/college students, hobbyists, self-taught artists
  • Professional – Practicing artists, illustrators, graphic designers, or art educators

For Draw My Destrict

Eligibility Guidelines

Amateur Category
Open to residents of the district without formal training or professional income from visual arts. Students, hobbyists, and community artists are welcome.

Professional Category
Open to trained or working professionals in design, art, illustration, or creative industries.

General Rules:

  • Individual entries only (no group submissions).

  • Participants must currently reside in the district they are representing.

  • Each participant may submit only one artwork.

  • Minimum age: 14 years

Submission Format

  • Medium: Hand-drawn or digitally created artworks (no AI-generated work)
  • Style: Open (realistic, abstract, cartographic, whimsical, narrative, etc.)
  • Size & Resolution: A3 or A4 format; Minimum 300 DPI for digital files
  • File Format: JPG, PNG, or PDF (for scanned/photographed hand-drawn work)
  • Title: Each entry must have a title

Optional: A short descriptive caption (50–100 words) in English or Nepali

Theme and Concept Guidelines

Participants may interpret “My District, My Pride” through:

  • Everyday life, icons, and symbols of their region
  • Architecture, crafts, food, festivals, landscapes
  • Portraits of people or imagined personifications of the district
  • Maps and illustrative collages
  • Juxtaposition of past and present or visions of the future

Entries will be judged on artistic expression, storytelling, and cultural relevance rather than realism or technical skill alone.

Amateur Category

  • Originality and Creativity – 30%
  • Local Relevance and Interpretation of Theme – 30%
  • Composition and Visual Impact – 25%
  • Effort and Presentation – 15%

Professional Category

  • Conceptual Depth – 30%
  • Execution and Technical Skill – 30%
  • Visual Communication and Cultural Insight – 25%
  • Narrative Coherence – 15%

 

Jury Panel

Each district’s entries will be reviewed by a three-member jury:

  • One local artist, teacher, or cultural figure

  • One invited art/design professional (identified by SDW team)

  • One government representative (Commerce & Industries Department)

Finalists may be considered for a curated state-level exhibition during Sikkim Design Week.

    • Image file upload
    • Title and district name
    • Declaration of category (Amateur / Professional)
    • Short caption (optional)
    • Consent for public exhibition and publishing

Hand-drawn works must be scanned or photographed clearly and submitted online.

  • Selected entries may be adapted for public display (with attribution).

  • Participants retain copyright but grant Sikkim Design Week permission for publication and exhibition.

  • The organizing team may reclassify submissions if miscategorized.

  • Late submissions will not be accepted.
